Position: Research Programmer

Job Description

The Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks to fill one or more full- or part-time Research Programmer (Consulting and Network/System Administration) positions in the Departmental Services (DS) unit.

The individuals will provide LAN services, system administration, and desktop support in departmental settings across campus as part of the DS program. DS consultants form a collaborative consulting team, serving central services and local settings. The diversity in technical platforms and work environments ensures opportunities for consultants to grow professionally and acquire new areas of expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with at least one year of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise with Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX operating systems on TCP/IP networks
  • Computing hardware aptitude
  • Proven record of excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Production server administration experience

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience administering TCP/IP LANs
  • Network operating system administration experience
  • Experience diagnosing network problems and maintaining network security
  • Windows, Macintosh, or UNIX workstation administration experience
  • Training experience, experience managing support staff or facilities

Terms of Appointment

The position offers challenging opportunities to work in a collaborative and progressive team environment. Individuals who will receive a Bachelor’s degree within the next three months are encouraged to apply. Degree must be earned before start of appointment. Full-time positions include 24 vacation days and 11 paid holidays per year. Salary: $41,000 minimum, commensurate with experience. Part-time positions will be filled as needed.
